The Costa Smeralda, English for The Emerald Coast is a coastal area in the north east of Sardinia with natural coves and enchanting beaches. This is the most luxurious tourist destination of the island and very popular with the international VIPs, European politicians as well as celebrities from all over the world.
The capital of the Costa Smeralda is Porto Cervo, the most renowned resort of this coast and one of the most famous tourist destinations in Sardinia. Porto Cervo was first launched as a tourist destination in the early 1960s, together with the resort of Cala di Volpe, Liscia di Vacca and Baja Sardinia, by the Prince Karim Aga Khan.
Porto Cervo and its own Yacht Club Costa Smeralda organise the Sardinia Cup, and other international sailing regattas, starting from April and closing in November each year.
