Tropea

Tropea stands on an imposing standstone cliff, in a charming position between the Gulf of Sant’Eufemia and Gioia Tauro, and is one of the most artistically interesting and picturesque town in the Vibo Valentia province. Legend has it that this picturesque little town was originally founded by Hercules, therefore the port is called a Hercules Port. The area stills holds traces of ancient prehistoric settlements, alongside buildings and burial passages dating back to Greek and Roman times.

Nowadays Tropea is an exclusive seaside resort that also boasts a modern tourist and fishing port. The town is typical for its narrow streets, the ancient noble palaces and the whiteness of its beaches.

Not to miss is the chapel of Santa Maria dell'Isola, situated right on a cliff above the sea, can be reached by a winding path from the beach. The breathtaking views of the sea below, its hidden terraces and the panoramic benches make it a perfect place for a romantic evening watching the sunset.
